Some friends and family ask that I put story of his birth on here.
For several days before Colt's birth I had been having pretty bad low back pain and trouble sleeping. I had moved from our bed and started sleeping in the chair in our living room because it was more comfortable. Sunday morning, August 17th, I decided I couldn't sit through church on the hard pews and went to help in the nursery so I could move around. By that evening my back was hurting much worse. I just thought this was one of the pains of being at the end of the pregnancy (I was not yet 37 weeks along). Sunday night around 10 pm I started having even more severe back pain. Around 2 am I realized that their were sharp pains on top of the already severe pain that were lasting a few seconds and coming every 7-10 minutes. I still didn't think they were true contractions because all the pain was in my back, you'd think with all my medical knowledge I would have realized this. Anyway, around 6 am we decided to go to the hospital 'just to get checked out' before Scott went to work. When we got there the nurse hooked me up to the monitor and checked my progress. According to her I was having pretty bad contractions, was completely effaced and dilated to 5 cm. Needless to say, we were staying put at the hospital. I progressed to 9 cm fairly quickly but stalled out for a couple of hours. Finally around 2 pm on Monday I was ready to push. I pushed for four hours but Colt just wouldn't come out. It turns out he was head down and face up - this makes it much more difficult to deliver because their neck doesn't bend correctly to come out. Every time I'd push his little forehead would hit my pelvic bone. So at 8 pm, Monday, August 18th, Colt was delivered by C-section.
