5 Week Well Baby Visit

Colt went for his 5 week well baby visit which should have been done at 4 weeks. You would think I, of all people, would be ontime with his check ups. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 1 oz. and is 21 inches long. Everything else checked out fine. I am so glad his weight is up because he lost so much right after birth. He is finally back to where he should be. We have only one more health issue to overcome and that is his circumcision. Our pediatrician doesn't like to do circumcisions on premature baby boy's because of their size and that they are harder to take care of. Next week Colt will get that done and hopefully all will go well. He has started waking up only once at night which is a huge blessing. I can handle once just not every 2 hours like before. Since changing to the lactose free formula he has started eating much better. Yesterday he came down with a runny nose so he's been a little cranky. I love watching him change from day to day. Lately he has been more alert and taking in his surroundings. I can't wait until he starts smiling at me!!!

Colt's Birth

Some friends and family ask that I put story of his birth on here.

For several days before Colt's birth I had been having pretty bad low back pain and trouble sleeping. I had moved from our bed and started sleeping in the chair in our living room because it was more comfortable. Sunday morning, August 17th, I decided I couldn't sit through church on the hard pews and went to help in the nursery so I could move around. By that evening my back was hurting much worse. I just thought this was one of the pains of being at the end of the pregnancy (I was not yet 37 weeks along). Sunday night around 10 pm I started having even more severe back pain. Around 2 am I realized that their were sharp pains on top of the already severe pain that were lasting a few seconds and coming every 7-10 minutes. I still didn't think they were true contractions because all the pain was in my back, you'd think with all my medical knowledge I would have realized this. Anyway, around 6 am we decided to go to the hospital 'just to get checked out' before Scott went to work. When we got there the nurse hooked me up to the monitor and checked my progress. According to her I was having pretty bad contractions, was completely effaced and dilated to 5 cm. Needless to say, we were staying put at the hospital. I progressed to 9 cm fairly quickly but stalled out for a couple of hours. Finally around 2 pm on Monday I was ready to push. I pushed for four hours but Colt just wouldn't come out. It turns out he was head down and face up - this makes it much more difficult to deliver because their neck doesn't bend correctly to come out. Every time I'd push his little forehead would hit my pelvic bone. So at 8 pm, Monday, August 18th, Colt was delivered by C-section.

The Past Month

Sorry it has been so long since I've last posted pictures of Colt...life got busy with a baby! Here are some from the past month. Colt is now 4 1/2 weeks old and growing great. He's starting to be awake more during the day now. Nights are still interesting though. For the past couple of nights he slept on my chest because that was the only way we would both get sleep. But last night, hallelujah, he slept in his bassinet. He still woke up every 2 hours or so but at least he slept in between. I'm starting to figure out how to go about my usual routine with him and even go places. Today I took him up to work to show him off at a babyshower for one of my co-workers, we even went to the post-office and Walmart too!

A nice couple from church made this bear. It has chalkboard paint in the middle so each time a baby from church is born they go put it in front of the house. First bath at home. He loves bathtime and hates getting out of the water.
First outing. This is when we took him to the doctor at 1 week of age. It was August but he was having trouble keeping his body temp up so we had to have him dressed pretty warm.

This picture is of Me, Scott, and Colt, my parents (known as G-mommy and Grandpa) and my grandparents (Mema and Papa).
Sleeping soundly!
Look close. The outfit actually says 'My heart belongs to Mommy' but Scott taped over Mommy with Daddy.

Mommy and Colt on his first trip to church. I was upset because the outfit (size newborn) I had picked out for him to wear to church on his first Sunday was way too big. He's still in premie clothes today!Colt on his second sunday to go to church. This is a premie outfit I found...cuter than the first outfit.

Colt Dylan Diles

I know, I know...I'm a little late at getting these pics up. Colt was born Monday, August 18th, 2008 at 8 pm. He weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 19 3/4 inches long. Because he was early he's had a few minor problems but all are better now. He had trouble keeping his body temp up so we had to have him wrapped like it was winter outside! He also was juandiced so we spent 4 days making trips back and forth to the doctor's office and hospital to have bilirubin levels checked and had to have him wrapped in a biliblanket all the time while we were at home. He's now two weeks old and healthy. I would have never believed I could just watch someone sleep for hours on end but I can!
