Growing Up and Growing Big

Colt had his 4 month check up this morning. Yes, I know, its hard to believe he is already 4 months old. The doctor said he looks healthy and he weighed in at 17 lbs. 4 oz. I took off a couple oz. for the dirty diaper he had just before it was time to be weighed! At 20 lbs. he can get out of the infant carrier and into the stage 2 car seat. We also decided that since he is starting to eat solid foods now he needed his highchair put together. Scott did that last night - he was restless from being iced in.

Merry Christmas To All and To All a Goodnight!

First Time Foods

Since Colt is almost 4 months old now and it seems like I can't keep him full, I decided to start him on baby rice today. I'm not really sure he liked it - I think it was the texture since he's used to liquids. I finally thinned it out enough to make it more the consistency of the formula he drinks. He ate it a little better then - he'd even open his mouth when I touched his lip with the spoon. Like always he was quite a messy eater!

Winter Wonderland

These are pictures of our backyard this morning, it iced in Searcy last night. The dog loved it and the cat hated it! I saw a truck go down our street this morning pulling a boy sitting on a garbage can lid. Lucky we live on a street with very little traffic anyway. One of our friend's son was sledding today, ran into a stop sign, and broke his leg. I think snow would have been more fun!

Christmas Season 2008

Family picture. We couldn't get Colt to look towards the camera. In most of them he was looking at the ceiling!
Front Door

Scott stringing lights on the Christmas tree. We have a standing disagreement about Christmas tree lights. I think they should be white and he thinks they should be multi-colored. We alternate each year and this was his year.

Now hanging the red, gold, and purple balls.

The mantle with the stockings and lighted garland.

Close up of the stockings. My mom made our stockings and she's working on one for Colt for next year. This one says "Baby's First Christmas."

This is what Colt did while we decorated the tree. Notice the lights across his chair!

How cute!

Our cat loves to be inside things.

Jury Duty - My Most Embarrassing Moment

For the past two years I have been receiving letters from the state of Arkansas informing me I had been chosen for jury duty. Three times I've been able to get out of it - twice because I was in PA school and once because I was weeks away from having a baby. This time I had no excuse. I know some people feel that it is all of our civil duty to participate in jury duty. I wouldn't have minded so much had it not been for the timing. The beginning of cold and flu season is not a good time for me to take off time from work.

Anyway, I went down to Benton this past Monday night to spend the night with my parents because Mom's going to watch Colt for me. I call the hot line to make sure I am supposed to report and my name is listed. My mom's truck had broken down so we decide that Dad will drop me off so mom can use my car during the day and then she'll come pick me up when I'm done. Dad drops me off at the federal courthouse in LR and I make my way to the Jury Assembly Room - which is very nice by the way. I wait for about 30 minutes before someone comes to check us all in. For some reason my name is NOT on the list. (Yeah! I get to leave!) The clerk tells me to wait anyway and if all the jurors show up then she'll let me go - but they don't all show up. Now I have to go through the juror orientation and be possibly picked for a jury. When we get to the courtroom, the judge explains that 22 names will be called and the rest of the people can leave. MY NAME IS ONE OF THE 22! Can you believe it? And I wasn't even on the list! Now he says that he and the lawyers are going to ask us questions and based on the answers 12 of us will have to stay. Of course I have to stay. So now I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm on a trial and will be in Little Rock all week.

The trial starts, which turns out to be a boring case, and we break for lunch. We had been back in session for about an hour when I suddenly feel nauseated. I then realize that I need to be sick - NOW!!! I didn't know what to do, so I just raised my hand and looked at the judge. As soon as he saw me I said "I'm going to be sick" and took off running for the door. The court clerk lead me to the bathroom where I was as sick as could be. After I was all cleaned up the judge called me into his office to make sure I was okay. His white lab that comes with him to the office came and put her head in my lap while we talked and followed me to the door when I left! I called mom and she came and picked me up. Throughout the day I got sicker and sicker.

What's really bad is that everything that is said during a trial is recorded for public record. I couldn't believe I made such a scene but there was nothing I could do!!! How embarrassing!

Thanksgiving 2008

Thanksgiving was a busy time this year! We started in North Little Rock on wednesday at Scott's parents house. There we played cards and went to church. We spent wednesday night at my parents house in Benton and then went next door to my grandparent's for Thanksgiving lunch. After lunch the menfolk left for the deer woods and my mom, Scott, Colt and I went to my Mimi's house in Mayflower. She makes the yummiest chocolate pie! Too bad I was full from lunch and only had one piece. :( I guess that was better for my figure! Ha! Friday morning we got up and drove to Ash Flat. My brother-in-law Tim has a cabin on some land up there. The guys and Tim's wife went hunting while I stayed in the Cabin to watch Colt. (Next year I'll get to hunt again.) We had a wonderful lazy weekend up there and on Sunday we drove home in the sleet.
As you can see from the pictures above, Colt did not like the toy turkey! He did like being passed around and played with by all the family members.
